Grill on the Green
Owners The J and J in J & J's Grill on the Green is none other than Jim & Julie Plemons - two of the nicest people you will ever meet in the restaurant business.  Jim, who was born in nearby Hickory moved to Iowa at the age of 13 where he eventually met and married Julie.  But Jim heard the call of the mountains and came back in 1999 where he ran a local business until he and Julie acquired the restaurant.

Location J & J's Grill on the Green is located in the South Toe River Valley along State Highway 80 South - right next to the Mt. Mitchell Golf Club - only a 20 minute drive from Burnsville.  You can dine on the open air patio and enjoy a spectacular view of the Black Mountains or watch as the golfers come in on the 18th hole which faces J & J's Grill on the Green.  We are conveniently located just 2 miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile post 344 and are the closest restaurant to Mt. Mitchell State Park.  Two National Park campgrounds are within minutes of J & J's - the Carolina Hemlocks Campground and the Black Mountain Campground where you can hike along some of the most beautiful scenic trails found in North Carolina.  We are also within walking distance of the Roaring Fork Waterfall which is listed as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state.

History Originally called Albert's Restaurant, J & J's Grill on the Green has been in existence since 1979.  Built by Albert & Sylvia Badschild, Bavarian immigrants who saw in the South Toe River Valley a beautiful location next to the Mt. Mitchell Golf Club to build a life running a restaurant and a motel, Albert's Inn, right next door which is still in operation.  Albert & Sylvia retired in 2013 and have passed on their legacy to Jim & Julie who proudly continue serving the Bavarian and American food with the same quality and standards set by Albert and Sylvia all those years ago.
